HEART LAND I

In this series, I examined and abstracted the geography of my childhood in the Flint Hills region of northeastern Kansas. With a minimal palette and restrained brushstrokes, I attempted to evoke the quiet drama of the tallgrass prairie. Borrowing from the economy of form I've appreciated in the canon of calligraphic landscape paintings, these images reference a rural stillness I'm grateful to carry with me wherever I go.
